Crossgrade to PT 11 from LE 7 - Still able to use LE 7?

I'm crossgrading from PT LE 7 to PT 11. I talked to an Avid customer support person and she said I had to surrender my original licence. I've since looked into it further and it seems as long as I still use my Mbox 2 Pro, then LE 7 should still work after crossgrading. I assume that my DV Toolkit licence will also still be valid. I have a new project starting in a couple of days so I don't want to have issues with the upgrade and not be able to fall back and use my PT LE 7 system.

The Avid rep is mistaken, because the LE crossgrade is based on the hardware serial number of your LE interface, and does not involve the software, especially because versions before PT9 were not authorized by Ilok.

You can still keep using 7.

However, there's no way to have both 7 and 11 installed on the same computer, partly because of how Protools works and also because of the OS requirements. Any computer OS that's compatible with 7 will be too old to run 11, and any OS that can run 11 will be too new to run 7. So the only way to do this would be on 2 separate computers.

Also be aware that you will need an Ilok v.2 to run PT11.

Thanks!! That is what I was hoping. I have a new computer on order and have already purchased the new iLok, so I should be all set. The Avid rep just worried me when she said I had to surrender the previous licence and therefore would no longer be able to use my old system if the upgrade doesn't go smoothly. Since it was so long ago that I purchased LE 7 I forgot how the licensing worked for that version.
