+1. HDX fails miserably in this regard compared to TDM systems. this is a direct result of so many developers abandoning DSP versions of their plugs for AAX. i bought into HDX expecting a (reasonably) full compliment of DSP solutions... we now know that's never gonna happen.

Disk Cache has nothing to do with recording. If has to go to the drive first and if you are recording a large group of tracks at once absolutely nothing changes simply because you have it. Disk Cache is a playback enhancing system.

This has been said before but I think that it bears repeating. One of the most realistic solutions to the sagging HDX problem is for Avid to help the third party developers to help Avid by offering to take part in the development and expense of producing DSP plugins. Serious incentives must be offered or nothing will change. This is a simple sink or swim business approach that, by all available evidence, seems to not be being implemented. Build it and they will come. Unfortunately, only half of the total product has been built.

Avid has helped 3rd parties as much as they can. Some just have chosen to not accept money from HDX people

For HDX people to buy what? AAX Native plugins? And what has Avid actually done to pitch in and help the developers? If you have some info that we don't have please fill us in.

From what I know, the AAX SDK is very well laid out and Avid helps 3rd parties to get things started. No I am not one of them but I do beta test for several 3rd parties. For someone who WANTS to release, there is plenty of support.

Many developers use multi-host/platform native development frameworks rather than the Avid SDK. This is because most of their sales are not to Pro Tools users. I've been told Avid offers far more support to developers than anybody else but using the Avid SDK requires individual development expense for AAX.

True. But now it is the same algorithm compared to TDM assembly code...

It's not technical.

It's market and competition driven.

Combined with the fact that the mid level studio market has been decimated. The only place these companies feel they can make money is either the mass native market or the niche high end post market.

Adapt or perish.
