Pretty much, Pro Tools has no idea what the MTRX units are doing. And the MTRX units can be set to reference any clock you want.
Just to be pedantic, lol, the MTRX can adapt its sample rate from DigiLink (i.e. to that set by Pro Tools) but the clock itself has to come from:
  • the MTRX's internal clock
  • the word clock input
  • the video black burst input (same physical input as word clock)
  • the AES11 input (AES/EBU black)
  • one of other the digital inputs to the MTRX
