Default titanium 1Ghz + VX Pocket 2 / 440 -- success?

I'm planning a new system and wonder if any users can report success with that combination(s)?
Thanks in advance.

I've had amazing results with the VX pocket and a G3 Pismo PB, so I would imagine you'll have a great setup. I am assuming you can boot the titanium 1GHz PB in OS9 of course......

All the relavent updates for VX pocket drivers are here...

VX Pocket Drivers

I'm on OS 9.2.2 with the latest VX driver. No issues whatsoever.

By the way, this setup works like a dream with PTFree. You can get round the latency issues by using direct sound output on the VX control panel....

I wish I had a 1GHz titanium now, that'll be one excellent portable setup. If you can afford an apogee minime then you're set up with a truly pro, portable rig at far superior sound quality to any of the host based Digidesign products in my opinion.

I don't actually mind being restricted to only 8 tracks because, like the good old portastudio days you have to make certain creative (and potentially inspired) decisions when creating your music.

If I have too many toys to play with or options at my disposal I never actually get anything finished!

As soon as I can afford it. I'll get the Ti Book...

I'd love to know what kind of performance you get from it if you go this route.

thanks. are you on the vx pocket 2 or the 440?

yeah, i really like pro tools free and 8 tracks is plenty.
and i have a trak 2.
if you need more than 8 tracks . . . you might have to kill yourself.
i will definitely stay in touch.

I'm using the VX pocket V2. The 440 would be good, but I don't think you can record more than 2 tracks at a time PT Free, so you wouldn't get the most out of the 440 unless you were to use it with other apps.

How does the trak2 sound? That is one piece of gear I really do want, but the minime was much more within my budget.

When my album is mastered and my website is built I'll post a link to some sound clips of the recordings done entirely in PT Free.

by the way, i know pt free only records at 16/44.1, but i'm curious: does it recognize the s/pdif inputs of the vx pocket?
thanks

Not true. PT Free records at 24 bit. I use the s/pdif input from the minime to the VX pocket. It works like a charm.

I am getting superior sound quality recordings than I ever did with Mbox or 001. I can't vouch for 002, but I suspect that quality is as good if not better.

I am working on the PTF Win98 side of the house. I have an extremely stable setup on a Dell Latitude cpi, 300MHZ PII with only 128 meg of RAM. It works great with the builtin Crystal soundcard. I have recorded directly into the Crystal with a Behringer mixer and it sounds..... ok. It is great for editing.

To try to get a better front end in, I bought a VX440 on Ebay about a year ago and I have done everything I know to get it to work with PTF to no avail. It does work fine with Cakewalk. Do you know anyone who has successfully gotten the VX440 to work with PTF on either the Mac or Windows platforms?

Thanks,
bilco
