PT11 Memory Meter - EDIT: don't worry - worked it out.
EDIT: my istat menu meter was set to "memory pressure", rather than "traditional", so i thought i had free RAM when i really didn't. did some more digging into actual RAM usage. and i'm simply running out. gonna get some more RAM now. 32GB should do it.
