If you have 8 cores, I found and avid recommended - setting the cores to 7.

So 8 cores is 16 virtual, but setting it to 7 in the drop down

Or you have a Quad and you have 8 virtual and setting it to 3 in the playback engine was my best experience

PT10 what sub version?

Yup, YYR123's advice worked for me a few years ago as well. Setting PT 10 to only use 75% of available cores provides the best possible performance and stability.
