Default Pro Limiter Analyzer vs. Dolby Media Meter

Been running some tests on True Peak and LUFS reading between the two (both using bs 1770.3)

I keep getting a higher reading for LUFS with DMM - usually by about .3 DB. I've also got a few True Peak mismatches, 1 of them by a full DB

On the plus side the time for measurement is about the same but naggingly, the DDM creates new files each time and also consolidates the audio.

Any help in why the mismatch?

Have you run EBU test material through each? They may give a clue which is closer to a standard.

No I hadn't, that's a great idea. Thanks

However, this is R128 material (test material) and the Pro Limiter IS running the BS1770.3 spec, it's not specifically R128 compliant, or at least it's not an option for measuring. Ideally it would have a dropdown for Calm and R128

Earlier versions of DMM had a huge error when measuring 7.1 files...

They've attempted to correct this with the latest version.

There's some kind of fudging going on under the hood for 7.1, I'm told 5.1 "should be accurate".

Buy Nugen - the daddy of loudness meters. Totally reliable.
I don't trust Dolby and their Meters. CPU resource hog too.

R.128 specifies levels to be used, not how the meter works. It's based on BS1770-2 and 3. It also adds the G10 gate which was implemented in BS1770-3. EBU R.128 is a spec, BS1770-3 is the algorithm for measuring loudness, not what the target level is.

So any meter that is BS1770-3 compliant is fine for the most recent R.128 revision.

Chances are that the lower of the two peak readings is less accurate.

Semi-OT:
For their Audiosuite-Plugin, DMM and a few other analyzers use render mode instead of analyze, thus creating new files. A serious programming/design flaw !

Just undo after analyzing.

Or use the stand alone application.

Dolby have very kindly contacted me and offered to let me try their newest meter - rather than my let my experience rest with the original Media Meter.

Thank you Dolby. That is customer centric!
