Default Tech Novice seeks Computer Guru

Hi People
First timer, and yes, a few teething troubles.
I have a Pro Tools Le 6.7 system run with a Digi 002 Control surface, thru a Carillon AC1 computer. I also have an Evolution MK461C Controller keyboard.

The system is correctly connected (the Pro Tools Demo is loud and clear). I have created a track and can see the level meter going up and down but I cannot hear anything at all!!

I know for most of you out there this is probably a simple problem with an easy solution. If you have this knowledge please share it with me and let me know what I am not doing right.

I need walking thru, and I mean walking thru, the resolution

Thanks in advance..

Are the outputs of the 002 connected to your monitor system?

If not, that's most likely the problem.

If you are still unable to get output, please provide specific information on how you have all your components connected and what you're monitoring through (headphones, speakers, etc.).

Since we are in the MIDI Forum I take it that you have created a MIDI track and can not hear it???

Do you have sound modules or using Virtual Synth inside the Computer??

Remember MIDI just carries DATA no sound you need a sound module hooked up with it's Midi in and Audio out connected to the 002

If you are just recording audio Forget all this and post in the PC LE forum you'll get more help there!!!!

The other thing (which took me a few tries to figure out) is to add either an audio track or an aux track to your session. Set the input to whatever your controller and/or synth is connected to. Make sure your output is set to whatever you're monitoring to (most likely Stereo outs 1 & 2). Make sure the 'R' button is enabled on the MIDI track, make sure the volume is up on the Audio or Aux track and you should be able to hear something. If not, I'm probably not equipped to answer your question properly. Also, if you haven't done so already, post the same question in the 002 forum. More people look there and you might get a more in depth answer. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your response.

As I said earlier, I need walking thru this a bit.

How EXACTLY do you connect the outputs of the 002??

Thanks for a detailed response

Hi

Thanks for your replies

Yes I have created midi track, audio track and aux track and am using Sampletank 2 ( for example, Acoustic grand) inside the computer.

How do I get some sound out?

I would love to just jam along with a drum track and say, Rhodes, to thrash out some song ideas.
Any help much appreciated.

Hi Tommy

Thanks for taking time out to reply.

Yes, I have an audio and aux track on this particular session.

They are record enabled and the volume is up.

How EXACTLY do you set the outputs to whatever you are monitoring??

Thanks for the tip about the 002 forum.

Any further help greatly appreciated

OK, here's some other stuff. Again, I'm not a pro like some of the other people on this forum, but I'll try... you said:

(Yes, I have an audio and aux track on this particular session. They are record enabled and the volume is up.)
Now, you shouldn't need both - you said in another post that you're using Sample Tank. Ok, so use your aux track for that. Insert Sample Tank in the plug-ins. I don't think the IN on the I/O panel matters. Set the OUTS to 1&2 (assuming it's a stereo aux and assuming that's what your monitors are plugged into). Do this by clicking on the OUTS button (or maybe it's click and hold). You'll see a drop down list of all your choices. It should default to 1/2 but if not, choose that. Since you arent' hearing anything - are your monitors plugged into the main outs on the back of the 002? Is the volume knob for the monitors up? Also make sure MIDI is set up correctly so that you can trigger Sample Tank with your keyboard.

Ok, now with a regular midi track. You have the midi track and an audio track. Let's say you have a keyboard hooked up. Double check that the keyboard is hooked up correctly in the MIDI in/out. Check the Midi Setup (are you using a mac or win?) and make sure that's setup correctly. Make sure you have patch cables going from the keyboard into the 002 (that transmits the sound - remember the midi cable just transmits the information). On the MIDI track, you'll have one button where you'll choose the keyboard and channel (let's say Korg Triton - channel 1). Then you'll need to choose a patch (the button is under the track name - i think it defaults to 'notes'or something like that). Record enable the MIDI track (not the audio track). On the audio track, set the input to whatever you've patched your keyboard into 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, whatever) and the outs are set to your main outs (again, probably 1&2). If you're not hearing anything, my best guess is that you've missed a step in setting up the MIDI (it could be in the keyboard OR the computer). I know it took me a lot of time to get it set up (and I bruised my forehead banging it on the desk so much). It takes a lot of trial and error sometimes, so go back to the manuals and MAKE SURE each step is set correctly.

Hope it helps, and maybe you got some better help from the 002 forum.

Best of luck!

Tommy

Hey Tommy

Thanks a lot for your input.

I will try out what you have suggested.

I have Stylus up and running pumping out an audible beat but I still cannot hear my controller keyboard playing the patch from Sampletank even though it is registering on the vu meter.

The message says Sampletank has not been assigned a channel. The trouble is, and I KNOW, this is stupid, I dont know how to do that, yet. ( STEP BY STEP)

Its sure that I have a lot of manual to read, but I just wanted to get a beat and a Rhodes up to jam some ideas for now.

Anyway for now your advice is appreciated.

Best to ya

J
