Howdy all.

RTAS only versions - here's our take on it...

The issue for us was this - we took great pains to insure that the RTAS version performed at the level of sophistication, audio quality, and even processing efficiency, as the TDM version. To this end, the RTAS version became as valuable as its TDM counterpart.

How efficient? On our 001 system here, we benchmarked 100+ bands of EQ (25 mono E4's) before running out of memory, OR 25 mono CB1's before hitting the processing limit of our G3/300. That is alot of great EQ/comp in a single 001 system!!!

Also note owning a LA-2A, UREI 1176, Neve 33609, dbx 165, an/or a Neve 10xx, GML, Avalon, etc. is going to run you alot more than $495 x 2 (list!).

In the end, its up to you folks. We're watching our RTAS sales closely to be sure we understand what is going on in this segment of digi DAWs. I appreciate any commentary sent my way ([email protected]), and I surf the DUC regularly.

Thanks for taking the time to check out McDSP!

The McDSP plug ins are certainly worth the asking price. If some of the 001 users are coming from Cubase VST, MOTU systems, etc. you may wonder why the McDSP stuff costs a little more than VST plugs. It's 'cause they're a LOT better.

Hey! Colin,

i just read the great review of the filter bank in the Electronic Musician Nov 99 issue.

It's a great review. No wonder you hang out
here in the DUC, you used to work for Digi
eh? Any chance you can get some of your
old buddies to add a couple of features back
into 5.0LE? Ah, forget it, i'm sure you
didn't work in marketing anyway.

I'm anxious to hear the "analog saturation
modeling" and will check out the online
demo when my G4 gets to my front door.

Besides the review, there are lots of thumbs
up from the TDM throughout the users forum.
Many prefer them to Waves EQs, and they are
much more DSP friendlier than Waves.

The EM article did mention that although the
your plug-ins are definitely in the TDM norm
for pricing but, a bit over the top for
Audio Suite and what we are saying about RTAS as well.

Hopefully, something can get worked that is beneficial for all concerned.
I'm definitely interested in your products.

Howdy Haze, others.

Yep...worked in digidesign's DSP Group for a while. Went on to work in the R&D Group at Dolby. Then I got the 'bug' to start McDSP while at Dolby - you'd be amazed at what Dolby looked like in its early days!

As in my earlier response...we really focused on making sure host/TDM versions of the plugIn were equivalent. Hence it is still priced the same as the TDM version.

And my reading the DUC is all about keeping in touch with the users...! In any event thanks for the interest in what goes on at McDSP - hope to have many of you folks as clients soon!

I talked with Mike at bayview proaudio.
They offer waves NPP1 or NPP2 at $285.

They also plan on selling McDSP and Bomb
Factory plug-ins as well. So Colin, set him
up.

FYI, they sell the Digi 001 for $875 and
sell tons of Digi and other audio software.
Logic, Peak, Masterlist..etc.

Here's the site. www.bayviewproaudio.com

Point is, he didn't have to let anyone know about anything... He might've been wondering why he was even bothering to post the info, so I just I'd thought say it was indeed appreciated; so that we'll see more of the same in future. I've just started looking into NPP and just happened to be wondering about a street price. And if you find out anything worth posting- please do so, and I'll be equally grateful. The return on time saved through knowledge gained here has been incredible. Don't make me get Mugsy to give ya cement shoes.

Back to the Gold Bundle...
