Default Digi 002 with Lion?

New to the forum.

I have been using my old G4 with Pro-tools 6 since 2004. All has been well but the G4 PSU died. I replaced it but it was a pain to find and it is very noisy. I figured I should start migrating away from the old system. I have picked up a refurbished 27" iMac 3.4ghz i7 from Apple. I figured I should take a big leap forward this time and be more future ready.

I picked up a used digi 002 for a great price and it is eligible for the cross grade to PT9. I have a Soundcraft 328 board with adat outs. I use a Behringer ADA 8000 to turn 8 of the 16 out of the board into analogue so I can use all 16 outs on the 001 that I currently use. I have yet to install any PT software on the Mac. I figured I'd wait until I have everything lined up first. Just got my iLok yesterday. I picked up a copy of Logic Express as it works better with my Yamaha XS6 but I prefer PT for recording. I figured I'd get Logic going first since I had it already and I am still running PT6 for my current sessions. I started the process of installing the 002 on the iMac with Lion.

I did a search online about the Digi 002 with Lion and found this link (below) and installed the most recent core audio driver for the 002.

http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/...t-1200048.html

Well, as you can tell, I'm here because it didn't work. I figured I'd start with this forum as I will probably be here often and don't need any more usernames and passwords.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get the 002 to work with Lion? When I go to the "Audio Devices" on the mac it shows "Digi CoreAudio Device 0 in/ 0 out".

If the 002 can't be used it's not a total loss as it works out for me with the PT cross grade. I had read that the 002 was supported for PT9 but didn't think about the iMac coming with Lion.

In the mean time I am still running my G4 and PT6. Just dying to get on the new iMac though.

Thanks

Its not the 002 that is the problem. Its the fact that you need 9.0.5 to run on LION and 9.0.5 is a BETA for LION and has lots of issues on its own. Let's see what AES brings forth in a week or so. I hear rumors of Pro Tools 10, which almost assuredly will have been built to use LION

I had the same problem as you with the same set up. Hold down the "N" key as Pro Tools loads. This switches your hardware pref to the 002. I had probs connecting as well and this worked great. You gonna love GUI in PT 9 and the iMAc is awesome. Thank you Mr. Jobs. I'm excited about Albee's comment on PT 10. That would hopefully resolve some of these issues.

I think my question got lost in the back story.

I am not running any PT software on my iMac at this time. I will gladly wait for PT10 for Lion. My old G4 is running PT6 with my digi 001, that is still running fine other than the PSU issue as noted above.

The boiled down question is, can the digi 002 be used as a standalone audio/midi interface for Logic Express (or any other DAW) with OS Lion? If so, how? I tried all I could find on this subject.

If it's not possible that's OK. I'm just wondering if I'm missing something. While I wait for PT10 I wanted to use Logic as a DAW for my Yamaha keyboard/sampler.

Thanks

Thanks Keniko, I'm not running PT software. I'm interested in running the 002 with a DAW (Logic Express) for now as it works better with my Yamaha keyboard. That being said, with PT9, did you install the standalone core audio driver for the 002? I did that and it does't appear as a device. I can see the Eleven rack and a couple Mboxes listed in the system preferences but no 002.

I will get to PT9 or 10 soon but wanted to get this going first as I want to experiment with my keyboard.

Anyone using the 002 as a standalone audio/midi interface with OS Lion?

Thanks

herbertrqbisquit, I installed the 002 driver for PT 9 here:

http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/self...p?DocId=379411

My 002 works great with PT 9 Lion. But I can't play audio from iTunes or any other audio source. Searching threads on the DUC. I'm still trying to figure this out. No one seems to know what's wrong.

While it CAN work, there are dozens of much better choices out there. When working with Pro Tools, Avid.Digi hardware sometimes has an edge. When working with other programs, I would much rather run RME, MOTU or Focusrite IO

Thanks for the info. I'll try it again.

Still wondering if anyone is using the 002 as a standalone for other DAWs with Lion?

I will eventually replace the 002 but for now I just need its ADAT abilities and it's 16 i/o to interface with my old Soundcraft board. I picked it up used and it came with the ability to do the Pro-tools 9 crossgrade so it made sense.

I will eventually replace my board as I need 16 i/o as I do mostly band stuff and like having compressors on the board.

Thanks for the help. At least I know it should work. I just didn't want to keep wasting time.

Similar problem here.
As my digi002 works fine with my G5 OS 10.5, PT7, my macbookpro OS Lion won't recognize it's MIDI. I also don't have PT installed (figured I'd wait for 64 bit), but want to run other apps.
I tried following tips on about 5 different threads, to no avail.
Please help. I like my 002R and don't want to replace it just because it doesn't speak with Lion. Surely there can be a fix for this, Avid....

My Digi 002 Rack is not recognized as a CoreAudio device on Lion 10.7.2, either.

I have tried three drivers as follows, but none of them works.

v9.0r3

Driver Downloads and Updates for Pro Tools and Standalone [379411]
002_and_003_Family_Drivers_v90_r3_73509.dmg

v9.0
002_003_Drivers_v90_69599.dmg

v8.0.3 CoreAudio

Standalone Digidesign CoreAudio Drivers v8.0.3 for Leopard and Snow Leopard [362883]
