Default Creating drum patterns in Strike?

I'm looking into drum software for my Pro Tools LE 8.0 system. I'm currently using the Redrum in Reason and I'm not too pleased with the results (drum sounds are crap). I've looked into Strike, but I'm not sure of its ability to allow you to create your own patterns from scratch. I've looked at previous threads here, but they aren't conclusive. I looked at some online reviews. Here is what one of them had to say:
Quote:
What was less obvious, though, was how to actually program beats of our own from scratch. Fortunately, it was easy to modify existing beats to suit our needs, but a more apparent pattern-style sequencing interface would make creating drum patterns from scratch a more intuitive process
Does anyone have experience writing their own patterns from scratch with Strike? Before Reason I was using my old Roland XP-60 to create drum sequences. It was a great creation process where you can tap it in as you go and then make subtle tweaks in velocity and timing for realism, but horrible drum sounds. The other option I am thinking of is to get the Reason Drum Kits 2.0 for their NN-XT sampler. The drum sounds are better, but I'm not sure how easy it is to create patterns with that sampler. I know I'll use canned drum patterns sometimes, but I find it easier/necessary to create my own for my songs. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Can I point out that Strike does not currently support third party sample importing. Next thought are you after acoustic or electronic proprietary drum samples? Strike IMO is more leaning towards acoustic. What are you trying to achieve sound wise?

I'm looking for better acoustic drum sounds because I can get plenty of electronic sounds out of the Redrum in Reason. I'm ok with not being able to import third party samples into Strike, assuming the acoustic drum sounds are that good. I read somewhere that they don't have brush sounds. Did they include brush sounds in the expansion pack? Thanks for the feedback Benoni and Filosofem.

Interestingly enough the expansion pack doesn't contain brushes.

Well, [bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep]damndiddymodon! That is one strike against (pun intended). I will do a little research on Drumagog to see what that is all about. What I want to know in more detail about Strike is if I can create patterns in real time on the fly by playing keys on my MIDI controller while a click track is rolling, or can I only create patterns by cutting, copying, pasting, erasing, and drawing. At this point I'm leaning towards getting the Reason Drum Kits 2.0. I think they will allow me to create patterns the way I want. I'm still waiting for a response back from Propellerheads tech support. Thanks all.

Very good question lou and sadly no. The Style Editor does not have MIDI Input. Transfuser does what you want. Ummm... no seriously, you might want to take a look at FXpansion BFD 2.
