Default Upgrading from PTMP8 to PT11 Question

Back in 2008 I bought a copy of Pro Tools 8 M-Powered. I rarely used it and moved to another DAW. I now need to get Pro Tools back on my system, and want to cross/upgrade to version 11. I have my iLok with licenses for PT 7.3 and 8 on it (along with all my plugins), but I no longer have any of the packaging or disks for them, nor do I have any idea what my Avid (Digidesign at the time) account login was/is that I used to register PT. I have a new Avid account, but it obviously doesn't have my version 7.3/8 Pro Tools registered to it.

My question is, if I purchase the upgrade from 8MP to 11, will just having my iLok with the 8MP license on it be enough to get 11 running? I don't want to make a $399 purchase only to be SOL because I no longer have any clue how to access that old Digi/Avid account.

Any and all help with figuring this out is greatly appreciated. I need to get PT up and running ASAP. Cheers!

I tried finding a support email or phone number, but all I found was options to purchase support. I don't really want to go through the rigamarole of purchasing a support ticket, just to ask a question about buying Pro Tools hah

Also, are you sure your iLok licences are for PT itself? The iLok licences may have just been for extra plugins etc that came with your PT m-powered bundle.

I have no direct experience of the m-powered versions, but I understood that they functioned in the same way as the LE versions.

And that is that, prior to PT V9 there was no iLok licence for PT itself. Prior to PT9 only the PTHD software version had an iLok licence. Instead, PTLE and PTMP relied on two things ....

1) a serial number that came with the software, that when registered produced an authorisation code that you entered when PT finished installing, and

2) PT itself demanded that relevant hardware was connected to the computer, otherwise it would not run. In the case of PTLE, it tested for the presence of digidesign hardare, while for PTMP it tested for M-Audio hardware.

So if that is correct, and you no longer have the box with the serial number, nor an email quoting the authorisation code after you registered it, you'll have to hope that someone fom Avid can trace your account by some other means.

Are you still using the same email address? Still living at the same physical address? If not, you may well be in for a struggle.

Good luck.

When I open the iLok License Manager, I have licenses for PT 7.3 and 8 M-Powered. Back when I was using PT7/8, I did have to have an iLok connected (along with a compatible audio interface), so I think the licenses I have did play a role. I've attached a pic of the listed licenses.

I was able to find the login for my old digidesign account, but it doesn't list any registered products. Also, I just downloaded and installed the PT11 30-day trial.
When I first ran it for the first time, it gave me the option to activate a license by logging into my iLok account. Maybe doing that will allow Avid to see the licenses I already have and give me access to cross/upgrading. I might try it after the 30-day trial is up, but would still like to know if I'll be SOL or not.

Thanks for the reply!

All you need is this:
  1. A Pro Tools M-Powered license on your iLok account, required for "surrender" when you purchase the Pro Tools M-Powered to Pro Tools 11 Crossgrade.
  2. An iLok 2 (the rectangular one, not the original key shaped iLok).
You do not need any previous version of Pro Tools installed on your system. You will get a new iLok license for Pro Tools 11 and 10, and access to download all full installers for both.
