Default Hello 11R. Goodbye HD500. (on Thursday)

Let me preface this post by stating that for YEARS, I wanted an Eleven Rack. Monetarily, it wasn't feasible as it was only available bundled for a LOT more than I had to spend. This is why I went with the HD500. So I learned my way around it and adapted to it's "sound". I started going direct with it one side going to a powered wedge and the other to the PA. It seemed to sound fine that way for a while but then I started running it as a head into a Line 6 Spider Valve 2x12 and found it didn't sound all that great without using my Aphex Aural Xciter. I'm not a noob. I made sure to set it for use w/ a combo amp and turned off cab emulations. When I ran it direct, I used a 2x12 cab model.

Will I need to continue using the Xciter for added body and girth or is everything onboard sufficient?

I know it's late to ask now that it's on the way. I saw it for a really good deal online and jumped on it and the general consensus is that it's amazing.

Thanks, all.

Default Hello 11R. Goodbye HD500. (on Thursday)

I run mine straight to the board with out any extra processing. We use IEM's so I don't know about using a combo amp with it. A nice powered speaker might be a better solution with the 11r. But just hypothesizing.

Oh and I do think you'll like it. It's the first modeler I've used that I haven't grown tired if after a few months. Heck I've basically got one patch that I've stuck with for a good while. It's an ac30 based rig with a white boost in front and some reverb, delay, and rotary speaker afterwards. Don't even use any EQ's with it. I can go from clean to plenty of gain for my style with it.

So if ever I get tired of it, I'll just start a new preset with a different amp. That ought to keep me happy for another couple years at least. I can repeat that cycle for a long time lol.

Thanks for the reply. I'm wanting to use the amp for the tube power section. Plus, I have a feeling a lot of the clubs I'd be playing won't be properly set up for that type of set up. Also, I don't have IEM's or a powered speaker (anymore).

You are not alone. I tried very hard to get it to sound good on several Tube Amps (Marshall/Mesa Boogie), using the send return, front of the amp, and finally 11R-Marshall Tube Power Amp - (2) 2x12's. All sounded like crap!

11r straight to PT ++

11r straight to full range setup ++

Anything else

Even the 11R sounded bad through an amp? I'd be running it through the loop as well.

IMO the issue with using any modeler with a tube amp, is that tube amps are tuned "systems". And the power amp may or may not compliment the 11r. Not saying it can't work, but something designed to be "neutral" will probably work better.

I ran mine through Hot Rod Deluxe effects loop and it sounded great. But with different settings than running through rokit studio monitors.

agreed. I probably wouldn't want to use an EL34 amp with any modeler as they impart more mids and honk IMO. My amp uses 6l6's but the signal path runs it through some 12ax7's. It sounds good in theory but it may lend to more break-up than wanted.

Interesting. What was different in your approaches for each?

Run the 'To Amp' output to your amp and XLR outs to PA and you have the best of both worlds. As long as 'To Amp' is positioned pre Amp/Cab sim, your sending a signal as if you were plugging straight into amp.
