Default Beginner Having Beginner Problems Recording

so i understand the basics for recording: record-enable the track, set protools to record, press play, and you're recording. however, there is no wave read-out displayed. and, thus, there is no track left to playback. so, while the computer is successfully receiving the sound from the mbox--as evinced by the green and yellow jumps in the mixer's volume meter bar--protools isn't actually recording any information during the recording process.

is there another setting i'm missing?
any help is appreciated.
thanks

You can download the manuals here.

Check which record mode you are in. To start, it's best to use the normal mode. So no Loop Record, Punch etc. - you can find that in the menu Options. Or just control-click the Record button until you see nothing but the button (no letters or loop-circle). Record arm the track and press F12 or Command+Space to record.

Hope it helps,
Timothy
