Default 8.0 Upgrade from Demo?

Hi all,

My NRV10 came with a demo version of ProTools M-Powered 7.x (0 or 1, I believe). Purchasing the 8.0 upgrade seems to require an iLok USB device, which I'm pretty sure didn't come with the demo, so it seems that it is not possible to get upgrade pricing when migrating from the demo version...is this true? Will I have to shell out the full 300 for 8.0?

And if so, would it make more sense to just go with Cubase 4, or is there such tight integration between ProTools M-Powered and the NRV10 hardware that it would make sense to stick with PT?

Thanks very much.

Well, you're on the DUC, and most of us here like Pro Tools very much, so most will tell you to stick with Pro Tools. I am one of those people. Stick with Pro Tools.

But, I do believe your demo is worth absolutely nothing when it comes to buying a full version of Pro Tools, and you will in fact have to shell out the money for PT8. The boxed full version is only $249 at Sweetwater. Not bad at all. That's what I paid for 7.4, and my upgrade to 8 was $149, so to put it simply, my path to Pro Tools 8 was $400. You can get there for $250. You just got off easy.

BP,

I had PT 6.9 for about 3 years, and that was a pain. i have a dual core processor in my PC, and 6.x didn't support dual cores, so i had to dumb it down. that made for a slow machine and a LOT less processing power. any more than about 5 plug ins really made it chug.

when i came up with $250 last month, i went to the local G Mart (but now Best Buy carries M Audio also) and plunked it down for PT 7.4. i was a little worried because the idiot behind the counter for some reason said PT 8 only works on Vista, and i wanted the free upgrade to 8. a quick trip here set me straight and calemd me down.

alls i had to do is register the program and as soon as i did, my email for PT 8 showed up and i was off and running. $250 was a sweet deal, and i also got a $300 plug in free (transfuser). how can a guy pass that up?

Very much obliged gang, thank you. I will throw down for PT 8. I actually tried earlier tonight at Guitar Center but they don't even have it in their system currently...is sweetwater just taking preorders or are they shipping as well?

Thanks again,
The Bishop

I got my PT M-Powered 7.4 for $215 at Unique Squared in Atlanta with free shipping. Free upgrade to 8 and a free Velvet VI (That promo was over 12/24, sorry), but even just PT 8 for $215 is a steal. They even had my 2626 for $580 with free shipping and they shipped everything quickly. +1!

Sweetwater has instant delivery on the upgrade. But the full version isn't in stock I don't think.

I believe American Musical Supply has it though...
