Eucon active w/PT in the background?

I just got a Artist Mix to replace my old Command|8.
I've enjoyed that I could control PT w/C8 even if it wasn't the front application.
With Artist Mix and Avid Control on ipad, is this not possible?

Yes. Go to the Assign section in Eucontrol, focus on ProTools, then check the boxes at the bottom to lock to ProTools. Then you can move to other apps and it will stay with Pro Tools.

The setting is remembered. So whenever ProTools is open, it'll auto re-lock

Works great. On both Artist Mix and Control app.
Just a note: I had to have PT in focus, then open eucon settings and set the assign options, or they would be greyed out.

Sorry, thought my note on "focus on Pro Tools" covered that.

You don't have to be on focus with Pro Tools prior to opening Eucontrol settings -- just have to have it on focus right before you go to assign. When/If you have a eucon-aware monitoring system, you focus on the monitoring system first (like DADman) then click the lowest box to assign "Monitor and Control Room" to lock it. Then you focus to Pro Tools and click the top box ("Entire Surface") to lock the rest of the eucon features to the control surfaces/tablets for Pro Tools.

Curious why you went with the Artist Mix instead of the S1?

If it was price or you found a deal on one that's understandable but I was just wondering what influenced that route.

Using my Command 8 with the Eucon Control App kept me from going with the Artist earlier then I test drove a pair of S1's and thought they had a more solid feel.

Again I was just curious about what made you go the route you went.

I got a good price on the Artist Mix, that's right. Half the price of a new S1.
And I don't really like the tablet integration. I have Control on my iPad, but I have neurological issues that makes touch-screens problematic.
On the Artist Mix, I have a kind of transport functions (with shift modifier), I don't think the S1 has that, you have to use the ipad, keyboard or have a Dock.

Anyway, I'm happy with It. it has the main improvements that I wanted, upgrading from Command8; better displays with better meters, better plugin parameter control, Eucon protocol, and support for a few more years.

I'll integrate the iPad more if/when I find things I can use it for, in my own tempo.


Added: I checked again, and actually, it was more like a third of the price of a new S1.

That's a great deal without a doubt, even more so since it matched your goals so well.

I was surprised that I found EUCON on my iPad to actually be useful a lot of functions and features seem to be a quick access from the tablet.

I just wasn't if I had missed something obvious when comparing the units.
