MBOX2 mini buzzing whilst playing sounds (even muted)

okay, so to try and help as much as i possibly can this is the problem:

when a sound is played in windows (7 64bit) with 8.0.4 beta drivers i get a buzz coming from the monitors. this can be any sound, windows system sounds, and when i'm using winamp to play music, or wmp to watch films, theres a constant buzzing from the mbox...
its there when i turn the volume down on the mbox, turn it down in the program im using, and when i turn down in windows. but its only there when there is sound being sent to the device... if my computer is sending no signal, its silent...

I've been through as much as i can on the general troubleshooting guide to rectify noise on the mbox 2...

with the last set of drivers i had, (only just upgraded) I could play ASIO through winamp perfectly with no noise whatsoever, but had no wave drivers, so made do with all windows sound coming through in mono from output of soundcard on board going into 1 input on the mbox...

the buzzing is very faint but i can tell its there, especially when the dynamics of music/film takes things right down

can anyone help me?

if you need anything else, let me know... I would just love to get the card working right...
it hasnt since i bought it and I'm really regretting going the Digidesign route

I've seen this happen when there's insufficient current on the USB bus, and solved it more than once by hooking the Mbox (and ONLY) the M-box) to a powered hub.

Sometimes just switching USB ports on the computer can solve this.

yeah, I tried swapping ports, could be that im draining the power by using all of the ports on the back of the pc, i'll try using a good quality USB hub and let you know results.

Just make sure it's a POWERED one with its own power supply.

ok, so I've tried a powered USB hub, and still no dice... still starts buzzing a millisecond before any sound comes out and continues for maybe half a second after the sound stops, or in the case of muted winamp, continuously whilst something is playing (muted)

It sounds like you may have a ground loop. I've heard a similar sound when a computer is plugged into a "dirty" outlet. Sometimes trying a different outlet can help, or using a power conditioner.

its strange how it didnt do it when playing through asio with the last version of Protools i had (8.0.003) installed

I have the exact same problem and im using the yamaha HS50M and a mbox 2 mini. :S The sound only appears when i do somthing that could or generate sound in the computer. Like music from a music player or youtube.

Did you fix that problem?

Try balanced cables to the monitors and a better USB cable(something with a nice braided shield).
