Default Waves StudioRack can now host VST3 plugins by any brand

Big news, StudioRack as a VST3 wrapper and basically free!

Yep. Very cool.

Weirdly, I just looked up the support table for their own plugins and there’s still some that don’t work within Studio Rack. How odd.

So you can run any 3rd party plugin, but some of their own still won’t work within the rack. Still scratching my head.

Regardless, great update!

It looks like VST3 as the only addition, no regular VST plugins and I have a few that are not VST3. I’m wondering if it will use a Soundgrid Server for these VST3 plugins?

It will only use the SG Server if the third party plug has been written for it. (ie WPAPI format) There are still only a few available, but hopefully this might pave the way for devs to get onboard.

Thank you for that info! There’s a “ DIY Soundgrid Server” thread over at Gearspace I got enamored with and built one for about $150 & some spare parts but I’m still not up to speed on all the nuances of the system. I’m just happy I can hang 7-8 instances of Abbey Road Plates/Chambers and/or H-Reverbs off of it, helps that mid-2015 rMBP a bunch.

I received an email announcement from Waves about the update.
This was just after I installed the previous version and read the whole manual.

Being able to use it with other plugins in addition to Waves plugins is indeed a bonus.

Looking forward to experimenting with some parallel & multi-band chains using select plug-ins from each manufacturer.
Especially since StudioRack enables you to create separate racks for processing various aspects of the sound in parallel.
As opposed to just one insert rack where different processors each have an affect on each other.

So you could have a Saturation rack, an EQ rack and a Compressor rack etc., all in parallel.

I'm aware of StudioRack but why would I want to run VST3 vs AAX plugins?

I have a Mac Studio and don't really have any issues with the processing right now but have a couple of Mac Minis (M1 and last gen 2018). Could one of these be turned into StudioRack?
