Default Software outs not muting w/ Low Latency Monitoring

I'm using PT11 vanilla with an Apogee Symphony I/O and as I understand it, when I enable Low Latency monitoring under options, it's supposed to mute the software outputs.

Now, it sometimes does this but sometimes it doesn't and I can't figure out why. If I open a new Maestro 2 file while in a given Pro Tools session that seems to break the LLM, but I can't ever get it back on, even though LLM is selected under options.

My workaround is to assign the record tracks to a different out than the click but it's annoying that I don't understand if this is a software bug / glitch or a human mistake I'm making.

  • Mavericks 10.9.4
  • Pro Tools 11.2.1 (vanilla)
  • Apogee Symphony I/O 8x8+8MP

PT has never muted software outs, much to many people's chagrin!!

LLM is a direct path from your inputs to the main out of your interface that doesn't go through the app and therefore isn't subject to the buffer.

This is my understanding of it anyway. I use an HD Native card and Avid HD I/O with a buffer set to 64 or 128 and just monitor through the PT mixer without issue.

It really truly was muting the REC channels when LLM was engaged, but then it would stop working (not mute the REC channels) after I did some opening and closing of PT and / or Maestro 2 sessions. I couldn't figure out the cause so I just mute the REC channels manually now and it's fine.

I wish I understood if it was a software / hardware glitch or human error though.

Is it the ALT+K input monitoring that you have changed?
