Re: ...unable to communicate with HUI...
Yeah, go to SetUp/Peripheral/Midi and you see, I think 4 spots each with drop downs.. Click the first dropdown and click HUI, then in the next two dropdowns, under predefined, I think it is, you should see your hardware listed.. Click on it in both drop downs, and then add how many tracks in the next dropdowns, click OK and you're ready to go..

Re: ...unable to communicate with HUI...
I have had this problem with my mackie universal pro controller and my extender. Try this. In the menu options go to setup/midi/midi beat clock...uncheck the box of the usb port that the controller is linked to.

Re: ...unable to communicate with HUI...
Freakin eh 4times. I also have Mackie Univ Pro and 2 exts and am able to use it but it takes a long time to settle down (Mack channels continually flashing) once I change/open a PT project. I also find the OP msg if my Yamaha Motif 8 is not on. Like the Mackie is using the Yamaha Midi driver. And I have to use a high value for HW buffer when I use it or I get that other annoying error msg. I have decided on not using my Mackie for PT. It does work very well for Ableton Live and Reason.
