Unable to communicate with the HUI - possible causes?

Using a Faderport with current firmware update, 7.4 and Vista. The Faderport works fine until I try to control a track with the fader - then it stutters, then the error.

I know it's probably more of a faderport issue, but it troubleshooting, I am wondering what exactly is going on within ProTools that it drops the connection? My guess is that it's some sort of MIDI conflict. I have no other MIDI devices connected.

So, in general, what could be the cause of the error?

well i am having the same problem with my faderport and windows xp and all started when i installed lacei firewire hard drive i didn't find the solution yet
