Default Miroslav Philharmonik?

I want to start scoring for film in Pro-Tools, what do you guys think of Miroslav Philharmonik, and how does it work within the Pro-Tools RTAS. Is it RTAS efficient, CPU usage, friendly interface, etc.

Pro-Tools HD2, Mac dual 2 gig, 2 gig ram, Firewire video output

Thanks

We have Miroslav at home (although running on Cubase 4) and have to say I am very impressed. A really lovely sound can be made from it. Simple to use, not very power hungry and a lovely sound, would really recommend it.

Excellent plugin, I probably use it more than anything else. Right now the price is only $200, I can't stress how good of a deal that is. The sounds you get with it were about $3k back in the samplecell days. Because they were made to fit on relatively small amounts of RAM, you can use quite a few of them on today's computers.

Works fine on both LE and HD, go for it. The current offer is quite generous (in general, you are surely aware of the crossgrade price and IK Total Bundle options).

I paid between 5,000 and 6,000 USD for my original Miroslav Vitous Collection for Samplecell, it was about 15 years ago. This was a set of 5 CD-Roms with 1,78 GB of sound data.

Now you pay 599,99 USD for 7 GB of sound data or 1,300 sounds (= the full Miroslav Orchestra and Choir sample collection) or 269,99 USD for the 'Classik Edition' (= 1,5 GB of sound data or 250 sounds).

I am currently using the Classik edition and loving it- I highly recommend it if you can't spring for the Full Edition. Would you know how much it is to upgrade to the full edition from the classik? I can't seem to find that answer on IK's site. Thanks B

That would be 399,99 USD, see http://www.philharmonik.com/Main.html?prod_MPCE.php and click on 'crossgrade'

Interesting, I find their demos to sound pretty bad, very stilted 'sample' performances, the starts and stops of notes don't feel natural, and there doesn't seem to be much dynamic range in their sample volume range, certainly lacks sublety. For sure its' a good deal for the price, but sure doesn't sound very 'natural' to me, I'd never mistake it for an actual performance.

I wonder how the East West stuff compares.

One of the big problem is the strings, they don't 'flow' right note to note and the starts and stops seem very abrupt.

I agree... I own the Miroslav collection. I had it loaded into my Giga studio and now have it in Mach 5. I don't think it sounds very good at all. It definetely "feels" fake when you program the parts.

Second, they use Sampletank as the player. I own sampletank and hate it. (just a personal opinion... try the player before you buy it to make sure you like using it).

I would suggest going with East West Sympony Orchestra. It's pretty easy to program, the keyswitching works really well, the round-robin sample selection on short articulations works really well, and the things you program end up sounding like a real orchestra (imagine that lol!)
