Default PT 11.3 - Yosemite - Digidesign Midi IO - can't play midi in PT

Hi

Just upgraded to PT 11.3 (HD) with Orion 32 - audio I/O is fine - on Mac Pro running 10.10.1

My Digidesign Midi IO is recognised (amazingly) in Audio/Midi set up and can play 'stand alone' VIs and can also play VIs in Vienna Ensemble Pro 5

BUT I can't play midi in Pro Tools.
There's no connection inside PT.
If I insert a VI with it's own GUI keyboard it plays when I touch it on screen or if I draw in some notes on the arrange page, but not from the Midi IO.
I can set the Instrument channels to the relevent hardware instruments listed in Audio/Midi set up and when I play my Moog the audio runs through the Instrument strip but there's no midi ?

Also I can't play one hardware intrument from any other - ie I cant play my Moog from my master controller even though I can see the lights flashing on the 'in' side of the Midi IO.

I've re-set the Midi I/O - unplugged it's USB cable - trashed it's preferences - reinstalled it's driver - repaired permissions - re-booted many times

Not sure what else to try

Any ideas would be great !

Regards

Lee

Hi

Just to be sure - You have rec enabled the track and you have gone into the Settings - i/o and pressed default on all tabs aswell as input and output options?

And make sure that midi thru is checked.

I am not in the studio right now so I can't check all the settings we have but I'm sure someone will jump in here who have their setup infront of them

Best of Luck
Merry Christmas
Christopher

I have had this happen in several versions.. I restart and it works again fine.. Doesn't happen too much though.

One simple advice which saved my butt since years:

Keep a copy of the following files (and make sure they are in the right location) prior to installing or updating a PT version:

~/Library/Audio/MIDI Configurations/Default.mcfg
yourHD/Library/Audio/MIDI Drivers/DigidesignMIDIIODriver.plugin

The first file makes sure you use the same MIDI I/O settings, the second one needs to be in place so that it gets updated by the PT installer. If no DigidesignMIDIIODriver.plugin is present the PT installer won't update it NOR install one!!

Today I had the same problems after upgrading my MacPro to Yosemite and PT 11.3,
The upgrade caused loss of the midi io device driver.
Just go to support and find the latest midi io driver and install it.
The latest possible driver i was able to find was version 9.0.

After installation restart your Mac.
All is fine now !

The latest stand alone installer available is v9, yes but the PT 10 installer updates the MIDI I/O Driver to a higher build. I have no idea if it actually comes with changes but I think the newer the better?!

I'm on 11.3 HDX Kac 10.10 and my MIDI I/O is working, BUT not well. The timing is way off, worse than if I played it live. You get seasick listening to it. My friend who has a similar setup, has the same issues on Mavericks and Yosemite, but not on Mountain lion or earlier versions. I'm Curious about the later version of the driver. Can someone post it or email it to me? I'm pretty sure 11 does not upgrade the driver and if it does, it is not for the better.

You need to try the playback bug out with a percussive sound. Try some simple chords, 8ths. You will not hear it with a slow pad, but you sure will with a fast sound. I realize the drivers are old and that the hardware is unsupported, but if there is a fix, I would love to know. :)
