Default What's the closest I can get to a modded JCM800 with 11R?

I've heard that Jose Arredondo mods JCM800s by adding a third gain stage to them, so that got me thinking... is the DC Modern 800 exactly that? Another idea was just adding a tubescreamer in front of the regular 800 and setting the true-Z back to 1M+Cap so the guitar sees the TS as just another gain stage in the amp. Thoughts?

You should check out my BSC-38 pack of 11R Rigs. There are a couple MOD 800 presets in there that sound good to me.

Also, one of my favorite presets right now is my Diezel Herbert Y Rig made with the DC Modern model.

you can find all my Rigs at

http://elevenrackusers.blogspot.com/

Just click the Download Rigs Tab up top, and go to my Eleven Rack Rigs Download Site.

i would use the white boost to get that third stage instead of the tube screamer (which totally changes the tone).

How about the DC Modern model? I understand it's a hot rodded JCM800. I love that model!

Ya, the DC Modern is based on a hot rodded JCM-800. The DC-800 is a more slightly modded version of a JCM-800.

Thanks for the excellent replies guys, in fact I'm after Mick Mars' tone as I occasionally play in a Motley Crue tribute band. I know he recorded their last album using the 11 plugin, but AFAIK there were several instances with different amp models for layering guitars, achieving a similar tone with a single amp might not be an easy task.

In fact I was wondering, for the purpose of hot rodding amps in the 11R a dirt pedal model with a single tube (dual gain stages) plus tone stack would be awesome wouldn't it? Like a Chandler Tube Driver or something...

I've been reading about Mr. Mars' live setup (which is ridiculously big and complex) and noticed he uses 3 SLO100's as well, so I'll give those a try too. On a side note I'm already pretty darn close to nailing his tone using TS + 800 Lead... 80's hair metal is a LOT of fun to play, now let's see what I can come up with following your suggestions :)

I have been trying to get the right Mick Mars tone as well. But I haven't nailed either. I was able to get it fairly quickly with the POD HD using a user created preset with a little modding. I meant to write the settings down before I returned it but forgot. I can nail the treble side on the 11R but have struggled with the bass.

I would love for you to post your patch.

I will probably post like 3 or 4 of my favorite patches after I give these suggestions a try, stay tuned
