Honestly..
Has been asked and discussed over way too many times here.
Use the search for "best mic"

For my last CD, I rented a 1955 Telefunken U-47... SN in the 500's. Worth more than my truck.

How deep are your pockets?

Interesting that someone would want to sell that ....
I'm hoping to get one at some point.

To attempt to answer the question though, there is no "best mic". The choice of mic may need to vary with the situation. Some voices are bright, so wou may want to avoid the AKG C414 and go for something like the BPM CR10, or a Rode NT 1000. Other voices may be boomy, so you'd go for the C414 ....

That's the sort of reasoning that might prevail, so you could end up with two or three Mics in your (small) arsenal. I have a C414, a BPM CR10 (could you tell?), and believe it or not, a Shure SM57(!) that I use for vocals.

Bluntly it is the mic / pre amp that sounds the best with that singer.

It could be a SM57 to a $15,000 C12.... SM57 in a good pre is a great mic....

Well, without an intent to sidetrack or confuse this thread..I've seen at least 4 different variations of the 414. Yes..they all sound different .

Don't let people tell you "there is no best vocal mic" - there is... and it can be found at your local radio shack for about 30 bucks
