Default Unplugging Mbox in sleep mode - DUC Admin?

I have an Mbox 2 that I used to run on a Mac Mini. Last year I upgraded to a Macbook Pro 17. After a period of time of frequent Pro Tools use my Macbook started suffering kernel panics. I eventually determined that the kernel panics were caused by regularly hotplugging the Mbox. So I reinstalled the OS and stopped hotplugging my Mbox - but since I routinely take my laptop with me when I leave the house, it's become a real pain in the butt to constantly have to deal with restarting the computer everytime I leave or come home.
What I want to find out is, since the laptop goes into sleep mode whenever it's shut, is that equivalent to shutting down the computer, allowing me to unplug the Mbox when the laptop is closed without causing errors?
I sure hope I can get a definitive affirmative on this because it's really driving me crazy.
Thanks!

No. Like you said: when closing the laptop you just put it to sleep mode, which is not supported by the Mbox. This for sure is the wrong way to do it.

I have had no problems so far when plugging/unplugging my Mbox while the computer was running.

Cool Re: Unplugging Mbox in sleep mode - DUC Admin?

Thanks for your reply, Holly -- I'd still like to hear something definitive on this from Digidesign.

From the troubleshooting thread:
Quote:
General Setup and System Optimizations

- Please read your Getting Started Guide and configure your system according to the instructions in that guide.

Energy Saver

-Open System Preferences>Energy Saver
-Set the "Sleep Sliders" to Never (Computer Sleep) and Never (Display Sleep)
-Make sure the box next to "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" is unchecked
-Click on the options tab at the top
-If you have a "Processor Performance" drop down menu select "Highest"
From the Mbox2 Setup Guide:
Quote:
Optimizing a Mac System for Pro Tools
To ensure optimum performance with Pro Tools, configure your computer before using Pro Tools hardware and software.

Turning Off Energy Saver
To turn off the Energy Saver feature:
1 Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu and click Energy Saver.
2 Click the Sleep tab and do the following:
• Set the computer sleep setting to Never.
• Set the display sleep setting to Never.
• Deselect Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible option.
No sleep.

Is that not definitive enough?
