Default iPod Shuffle, how does it sound

Hi,

I never liked mp3 playback devices. Even the the former iPod line never interested me, well until
Apple released the iPod Shuffle and I thought: "this is for me", the design is awesome (I am a minimalist)

so I am asking you guys, how does it sound with uncompressed/lossless or high rate compressed audio? and some advive for some "good in-ear phones" (I realize the contradiction in the expression )?

thanks in advance

In all honesty, I'd be all about the ipod shuffle if it let me create designated song lists as opposed to just randomly shuffling my music. I'd buy it today, but I'm saving up for the newest ipod instead.

Jeff, of course you can add playlists, albums, etc to the Shuffle. It doesn't _have_ to be random. I was the 1st kid on the block to get one. It's my 1st pod and I LOVE IT! Listening to it right now. sound quality is amazing. awesome ear training for producers/engineers, IMHO. GET one now.

Hey dopamine,

I don´t see any way to encode M4A on the Mac. even the newest iTunes lacks this feature.
BTW any clues why the shuffle does not support Apple Lossless?

Mind,

Isn't AAC for ripping to M4A? Regarding the lack of support for Apple loss-less... With a 512 Mb Shuffle, you would only be able to store a few songs

Dope,

ah sorry, another post without thinking, I am used to the notion AAC and confused M4A for MP+ format

But refreshing the info reminded me what compression actually does to audio and I am starting to have nightmares again

but anyway, thanks for clearing that up

I was in an Apple Store the other day and was able to listen to a Shuffle for a little while and it sounded great. Good bottom end, decent clarity and not harsh at all. Definitely worth $99.
