Routing Coefficients preferences ignores master fader?
Hello. Has anyone else tried the "Routing Coefficients" settings found in "Preferences/Mixing"? You can choose "Classic" Fold Down or "Modern".
I'm using Pro Tools Ultimate 2021.12.0 in a 5.1 surround session. I have 5.1 Genelec digital speakers fed by AES outputs directly from Pro Tools, so I use a Master Fader to control the speaker volume with my EuCon MC Control surface. When I switch from "Classic" to "Modern", it then ignores my Master Fader and somehow plays directly to my AES output, so I have no volume control. If I switch back to Classic, it still ignores my Master Fader, but if I restart Pro Tools, it's ok again. Anyway I just thought it was weird and might be a bug? Thanks. System Details: Mac Pro (Mid 2012) 24GB RAM Radeon RX 580 8GB macOS Mojave 10.14.6 Pro Tools Ultimate 2021.12.0 1 x HDX card Avid HD I/O Digidesign 96 I/O

Re: Routing Coefficients preferences ignores master fader?
It's not clear what you're trying to do here.
If you're using a Master Fader on your monitoring path for Eucon Monitor control then that Master Fader should be as wide as your monitor path. Therefore, it should always be a 5.1 Master Fader. Why are you switching between Modern and Classic? |

Re: Routing Coefficients preferences ignores master fader?
Yes I have a 5.1 Master Fader. I was just curious about the feature and wanted to try it out. I'll just stick with Classic, doesn't seem like anything I need to mess with.

If you have a 5.1 audio track but need to send a down mixed stereo signal to a reverb or delay. Or, you want to send a 7.1 track to a 5.1 reverb or visa versa. It offers you more flexibility in routing. You also don’t need to make sub paths for your busses anymore since the new coefficients take care of it for you. Just a different way of working. I tried to recreate what what you were experiencing but the Master Fader operated as it should. |

Re: Routing Coefficients preferences ignores master fader?
Thanks for your time. Indeed, I am able to use "Flexible Track Routing" as Avid calls it here: https://youtu.be/AdAay-UVP4c
You can see from my screenshot, I'm able to print a 5.1 mix and downmix it to a stereo mix at the same time. screenshot1 (on Flickr) Also the Sends off my 5.1 buses get converted to stereo automatically, so that all works great. It's the preference between Classic and Modern that is acting up here it seems. When I switch to Modern, Pro Tools ignores my Master Fader. The Pro Tools Reference Guide explains the differences between Classic and Modern, page 123, but it merely changes the math involved, I don't think there is anything functionally different that would cause this. For what it's worth, you can see I actually have two Master Faders, one for each set of speakers (5.1 Genelec, 2.0 NS-10's). I've now tried deleting the stereo Master Fader and switching to Modern, but same deal, it ignores my Genelec 5.1 Master Fader. The other weird thing is when I switch back from Modern to Classic in preferences, the Master Fader is still ignored until I quit and relaunch Pro Tools. That's why I think it's a bug.

Re: Routing Coefficients preferences ignores master fader?
Have you filed a bug report? Sounds like one to me.
