Just checked and the video engine is still running in Rosetta, even running Pro Tools in native mode. I’m fairly certain not much has changed there since the last version but I hope I’m wrong on that front!

Apple Silicon has hardware accelerated decoding on those GPU units for h264.
Though interframe codecs are still annoying for frame accuracy, there isn't a penalty anymore for using them in Pro Tools.

(h265/HEVC and Pro Res are also hardware accelerated -- at the moment, that makes those a better choice than DNxHD/HR since all those GPUs can actually do some work rather than being lazy)

just need Stratus 3D to go native
Good to hear!! I have not been in the room for several days, but did update to the new Renderer and Native ProTools.
I also installed a new Cisco Ethernet Hub that is much better than what I had, which also seems to be much betting for my Networks here.

After installing 22.3 the only way I can get reliable VE is by turning off GPU usage in the the prefs like before. This was the same on previous PT versions.

With GPU off I have zero Video Engine errors. With GPU on It's almost impossible to work.

(I'm on Intel )

Is this on the Mac Pro 5,1 listed in your signature? I am not surprised by any of this in that case. After Pro Tools 22.7, the Mac Pro 5,1 isn't really supported due to the change in how Avid are compiling for later macOS versions and hardware frameworks. My 5,1 is frozen at that version (I tried moving up a macOS and using later versions of PT but it was terrible and I reverted to where it is stable.)

Thank you for pointing that out, I was really impressed with how well managed to port all the bugs with the video engine!

Yup. The 5,1 actually was supported till 22.12 https://avid.secure.force.com/pkb/ar...rating-Systems (and I think the only reason they dropped it recently is that they are not testing for Mojave anymore but mine runs Monterey)

And it still runs perfectly fine under 23.3. Just turn off GPU. I've had zero VE errors in months It's been the same on 22.12. GPU off = VE errors gone.

Frank.

Do you have the ATI GPU (the Radeon RX560) in your system? The Avid note on the webpage you linked to is in direct reference to what you are experiencing.
