You know, if I had a PT10 and a CPTK license on my iLok account, I would upgrade to PT11HD instantly. There's the crossgrade path available today, but no promise it will be there tomorrow. If the crossgrade path goes away, the very expensive CPTK becomes worthless but the PT11HD license would retain its value.

If I upgrade to PT11 HD, do I have to surrender my CPTK license? (I was thinking maybe I should have PT10/CPTK available on its own boot drive or whatever… just in case.)

Doesn't matter, that PTHD11 license will auth 10 as well. No loss in capability.

+1
HD11 is one great option one should not miss out if he could get it that easily/for so less money
compared to having to buy it regularly for several thousands IMO.

Sounds good. Now, when I do upgrade to PT11 HD… it sounds like maybe I should install a brand new boot drive (possibly an SSD) and keep PT10 on my old boot drive (mostly in case I need Speakerphone and other non-AAX plug-ins to work momentarily for a project.).

So, I guess that also means re-installing all my VI libraries and other third party plug-ins onto the new SSD as well… or maybe simply copying the old plug-ins folder to where PT11 HD is first going to look for it? (Edited to add: never mind. The non-AAX plug-ins won't work so no need to copy them. duh.)

The other question that should be asked is, what are the specs on your host computer? Going to PT11 will be an exercise in frustration if your computer doesn't have the horsepower to run it. Incidentally, you can install PT10 and PT11 together.

It's a Mac Pro (8-core/2x2.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon), with 24 gigs of RAM. (My expectation is that PT11 HD will be more powerful than PT10 is… not choking on all my virtual instruments and so forth… and possibly delay the need to buy a newer computer.)

PT11 requires mavericks - I don't think the 2008 MP will run 10.9

If I'm reading the compatibility grid correctly, PT 11 HD can run from Mountain Lion or Mavericks. (It looks like maybe PT 10 requires Mountain Lion). My understanding is that my late 2010 Mac Pro will also run either OS.
