Default Drum module live

Forgive me if this is a bit off topic. I am putting together a band to perform songs that I have arranged on Pro Tools LE. The songs have semi-intricate percussive parts (more than just your regular drums) and I am working with my drummer to make it all come togetgher. My question: Do any of you use a drum module? He plans on buying 2 or three v-pads to add to his acoustic kit. What do you suggest for a drum module that hase the ability to load samples? What advice do you have?

any help would be greatly appreciated,

Blake

Blake,

If I understand you correctly, you wish to add a handful of pads to an acoustic kit to play.... correct? I mean, you won't be triggering them from the kit, but from the pads? Well, there are quite a few ways to go depending on what you'll really be doing. If he simply needs other sounds, pretty much anything like a DM5, DM-Pro, TD10, etc would work. If you're talking triggering an acoustic kit, that is a whole other issue. While not a drummer, I have quite a bit of experience in the studio and live with such a setup. I've owned everything out there to use with pads and trigger a real kit. I was using a pair of Clavia Ddrum4 brains MIDIed up to a pair of EMU E5000 Ultra's and a Kurzweil K2500. The kit our band used was so big that it became impossible to mike up anymore (we were using nearly 30 microphones). Besides, it's progressive rock so that is okay
