Default Sales Tax
Why does digidesign charge sales tax when they are based in california and I am based in Maryland? It is to my understanding that sales are tax-exempt if they are shipped from out of state....

If they have a sales office in your state, then they need to charge sales tax.

Out of state sales are not tax exempt. They are just not required to charge the tax. If you buy somethig from out of state, then you, the buyer, are required to pay the sales tax, although I'm sure that almost nobody does.
