Depends on the track and to a certain extent personal preference. There's no right or wrong answer...just make sure for the given track that you can justify your choices logically. The titile "engineer" means that you should be able to work out what's best for the situation.

HI,

add. to the above try reasoning something like this:

1st Gate - to eliminate what should NOT be processed.
2nd EQ - to work on what should be audiobly be colored (boosted or cut)
(changing the Freq. will change the sound color)
3rd Comp - to work on the dynamic pressure to match something else´s level or dynamic.

this is just an example. It really depends on what you want to achieve.

maybe take a look the this:

to learn more about the WHAT AND the WHY you should do it.

I prefer to put my eq after the compressor so the compressor is adjusting off the original sound and then eq to taste. To my ear it sounds more transparent in most cases, but not all. I agree, no right or wrong way, try both and see which you like better.

HI music,

unless you use some sort of reference (template) session to start with it´s
your second guess.

You can always import a track from a previous session sans audio, then move or copy the new audio into that track.
