You paid for an UPGRADE, which cost less, than a full license. How would it be fair, if you'd still be able to use both versions?

I'm not saying that you should be able to use them as two separate licenses - to sell them, run two rigs, etc. - but it would be helpful if the licenses were backwards compatible. I've upgraded before and had plugins and VIs stop working, even despite being supposedly compatible. I absolute agree that it's completely fair to have to have the PT9 license "married" to the same iLok as the PT10/11 upgrade, but I don't think that it's asking a lot to be able to use that same iLok in a PT9 system, if needed. I don't see how that would be unfair or would harm Avid's business. It would just be helpful, that's all.

I wouldn't know of any PI or VI that stopped working going from 9 to 10.
I'm certain you do not need to fear that.
