OMF import problem
I am attempting to import an OMF from Adobe Premiere. Because of the large size of the OMF, the program was unable to imbed the audio files inside the OMF, but the files were put in a separate folder.
I have imported OMFs successfully a few times before, but it was ALWAYS with the audio imbedded inside the OMF. So the system just spent 2 days trying to relink, and didn't find anything. The folder with the OMF audio files is right here, but how can I tell protools 6 to link to the proper files? Thanks John

Re: OMF import problem
Not in front of it right now, but there is a way. You have to open the media folder in the relink window and use the 'find all candidates' button to link them in groups and then hit the orange buttons manually. It's a PITA, but it can be done in 20 minutes or so.
Honestly, if it's a big mix I would request multiple embedded OMFs. Premiere is terrible with the non-embedded OMF. Pro Tools version 6?

Re: OMF import problem
I open the file in Adobe Audition and export another OMF from there. Pro Tools is able to find the audio files from the Audition OMFs I create.

Re: OMF import problem
Ahh the old Pro Tools-can't-relink-audio-even-though-they-are-right-there bug. Did you say Pro Tools 6??? I'm sorry to say this problem persists to us guys here in the future.
If I'm not mistaken AAF can handle much larger file sizes, people still seem to be relying on omf which I find strange. |

Re: OMF import problem
Yeah, stuff from Premiere is never my favorite.
In order to relink: - click 'Manually Find & Relink' - Point to the correct folder with the OMF audio files in it - in the Linking Options window click 'Find by Name' - UNCHECK 'Match Format' AND 'Match Duration' (you'll get a warning window just click ok) - Select everything in the 'Files to Relink' box - Click 'Find Links' - Give it a minute and all the files will have that little orange link chain icon appear, then click 'Commit Links' The other options if you want embedded OMFs but are running up to the 2GB max are to split the film into reels, **or** split the film into horizontal slices (so tracks 1 & 2 are in OMF A, tracks 3 - 6 are in OMF B, etc etc). Or go the AAF route, which can embed files larger than 2GB. Hope this helps. |

The problem I've encountered with Premiere AAF (as opposed to OMF) is that the audio filenames aren't correct; though others may prefer AAF for various reasons (among them use of Field Recorder Workflow, having short sessions where filenames aren't so important, etc.) Sent from my LG-H872 using Tapatalk

Re: OMF import problem
Wanted to add a brief update here -- a client of mine with the most updated version of Premiere Pro sent me a test AAF, and the file opened in Pro Tools with the clipnames intact. He's going to send me a larger session later today, and I'll let you know if the same holds true.
Would be nice to receive AAFs from Premiere with the clipname issue resolved. G.
