Default Cheapest way of getting 11R editor

Hi Y'all.

Im totally new here.
I just bought a used 11R. Found out later that it was without the Pro Tools software that usually ships with a new 11R.

So now i'm looking for at solution to use the 11R editor in pro tools, which i dont have.
I could choose to buy PT11. It's a high price when i dont want to record. I only want to edit my presets in 11R. So im looking for cheaper alternatives.

Q1: What versions of PT support 11R editing? 8,9,10,11, LE etc.???
Q2: To save money could i buy a MBOX or other hardware and use the PT that comes with that?

I have zero experience in this. I am not a recording artist. I play live gigs etc.

If anyone could help me out here, finding a solution that could save me a buck, i'd be happy.

I'm using PT8LE on an old laptop, exclusively for my Eleven Rack.
I never open a PT session, just starting PT and open the 11R Editor window.

This is my 11R "Stand Alone Editor", only used to edit/save/load presets.

I chose PT8LE to omit the iLok (which are in use for other purposes - PT10, plugins etc), as its only purpose is the above mentioned.

This is only cheap if you have a laptop that otherwise would been thrown away of corse (mine is an 8 year old)

PS. I'm done waiting for a Stand Alone Editor from Avid

Hej Bredo.

Q1: Why is it only cheap if i have an old laptop???

Q2: I found a Mbox2 Mini with PT8LE for sale. Could i buy that one and use this for 11R with latest software and expansion pack?

I think he's saying if all you want is an editor your not going to want to invest in a workstation just to edit 11R patches.

PTLE8 is your cheapest way in. And if you want to record any Audio you will need a interface. So if the price is attractive buy it. PTLE8 is over 5 years old now and doesn't support the latest operating systems. You should check compatibility with your computer using the links at the top of the forum. With Windows you could use 32 bit XP, Vista with PTLE 8.

If no ones used the MBoxes serial number you could cross grade PTLE8 to PT11 for 399.00. You could also purchase a used PT9 or PT10 asset to get to were you need to be.

The used 11R you purchased may have the expansion pack already. Check the firmware. The revised firmware is 2.01 I beleive. If not you can purchase the ERXP in the avid store for 99.00

In all honesty you might be bettor off in the long run selling the used 11R and buying a new 11R which comes with a free upgrade to PT11 and the ERXP

Yeah if you have the 2.0 firmware you are set....get the PTLE system and edit away......

(Since recording is not the concern) I love the eleven rack nice sounds.

Someone on TGP said they just picked up a copy of PT8 for $35. Watch Ebay.

Go here:

https://sites.google.com/site/elevenhack/

Works fine on my Windoze laptop. Only for editing and rearranging rigs in the slots. Tuner works fine. Not meant for recording.

Make sure you dl the relevant drivers from avid.

Cheers.

Will try the ElevenHack, if i remember not to download the updated driver from Avid...

My solution became this:

Bought a used Mbox2-Mini for next to nothing. Had PT8LE which had never been used. Installed the software and set the mbox2 into a usb-port. I put 11R into another usb-port, opened PT8LE and there was my 11R window, all ready for editing. Works like a charm and costed me less than $100.

In that scenario you really shouldn't need to have the MBox2 plugged in. The 11R is all you need.

Yeah well... Read somewhere that in order for PT8LE to work, the mbox2 had to be present in the computer. Don't know. I just put it in. Might be useful someday
