Default Does anyone run a Digi001 with a dual 1.25ghz G4?

Is it running smoothly? Any problems? Would you recommend it? I've heard that it runs better on a dual 1ghz Quicksilver than it does on a mirrored door model.

Also, with Digi001 I can run Protools 6 right?

I use the 001 on a fiwire 800 dual 1.25GHz G4. It works well most of the time, aside from the weird bounce to disk bug that has shown up in PT LE 6.4

Its running very well!! just make sure you have good RAM and not a lot of crap hooked up to your computer!! Also, 6.4 seems to be the most stable of all since 5.2!!

I run this machine and it's a monster...Been pretty damn smooth for the most part...However I do also have the Bounce to disk problem but thats on the digi software....It's trippy.....I dont even use BTD anymore, I just route the audio through my Trak2 and back into pt then burn the audio files to disk...But anyhow, it's a kill machine...It's perfect for 32 track sessions w/ plugins a plenty...I use waves and It's all good...Get it, it's good...

Have it , love it no problems. Running 6.2.2 and I don't think I've had any bounce to disk problems.
I recommend it highly

Had one for about a month. It was a BIG change from my good old G4 400! I'm still running PTLE 5.1.1. I'm good for 32 tracks with tons of Sampletank, Altiverb, Waves etc. Can't choke it yet.

Run a very lean extensions set and make certain you have plenty of quality RAM.

Mikey likes it.

Regards.

There are some issues with the MDD G-4's, specificially with Motherboard compatiblity( Apple is aware and will replace the incompatible mobo for free) and high noise from the PSU, whcih you can get a psu kit from Apple to significantly lower the noiselevels of the fan.

That being said yes indeed the 001 runs fantastic on a dual 1Ghz QS, and that model is highly recommended by us.

Yes, the 001 will run on the latest version PT6.4. Howeve this is the last version it will run on, digi announced a few weeks ago all future upgrades will NOT be compatible with the 001, forcing 001 users to stay behind or spend more money on similiar digi products (002R) that iwll certainly fall the same fate in a few years.

So if I buy a brand new dual G4 from Apple, I wouldn't have those issues right? By now that should all be sorted I would think.

Well I suppose I could trade in my Digi001 that I buy eventually when I need to upgrade. For right now, I just want to get started learning Protools to see if I have any success to warrant a future upgrade.

RIght. If you were to buy your dual 1.25ghz you won't need to fix the PSU, etc. I bought mine over a year ago and when I got it it didn't need any of that stuff. You'll know if you have a "wind tunnel" G4 - often when you restart you'll hear your fans spin up to full speed until OSX loads.

anyway, my dual 1.25ghz works like a champ.

But remember, PT6.4 is the last version of PT that will support the 001, and the 001 won't work on G5's.

If you're thinking of getting a new dual 1.25 from Apple, keep in mind that it will not be the Firewire 800 model. Apple is doing something weird and selling it's next-to-last G4 model along with G5's. The last G4 model is probably too close in spec to the G5.

Anyway, I've never heard of any motherboard incompatibility issues. Incompatible with what, exactly? The noisy fan in the power supply has been "fixed" as of anything sold after January of '03. I will say, however, that this machine will still get quite loud. I have the dual 1.25 Firewire 800 model, and I have to keep it in a closet in my recording room.

I run PT 6.4 with the 001 and Mac OS X 10.3.3, Reason and Live (full versions) and plugs. Works great.
