Default VIA chipset: working/not working

I hope I'm not wasting anybody's time here, since I don't even own digi yet... but I'm planning to. And it seems that some people might be interested in this topic. Digidesign states that the VIA chipset for PIII cpu's is not compatible, but there seems to be a lot of people who were able to get it to work. In fact, which gives me a lot of hope, I read one user has a configuration almost exactly like mine (Micron Millenia PC).
Anyway, I thought it would be a good idea if users who own a PC with a VIA based motherboard could post their configurations and experiences here. It seems that digidesign's tests were done about a year ago, probably on the 133, not 133a, and without the new 4-in-one via drivers.
So, it would be a good thing to mention the actual type of chipset, whether the 4-in-one drivers were installed, cpu speed and other pc specs, other soundcards installed, any problems during installation, performance/stability, and whatever seems important.
On the other hand it would be interesting to hear from those, for whom via chipset just didn't work with digi001.
All the best,
Tomek S.
PS: greeting from the new guy

also note which agp setting they where using for their agp cards. The original agp settings caused problems with some hardware/software.

there have been several messages from folks who are actually using AMD or VIA, and from those folks who tried.

if one has time, could they perform a Search on all the Windows 001 groups and combine all the replies into one message (this one, e.g.)

use terms like: Athlon, AMD, VIA, K7V, K7M, A7V, irongate, 133, etc. And in both the subject heading and the message text.

Oh, the new VIA chipset: '686B supposedly has drastically improved performance. See the review on Tomshardware.com. It's supposed to be pin compatible with the older one so it should be showing up soon.
