Vocal Editing ?
Hi There,
I am new to pro-tools but I have lurked around here for awhile (learned TONS!), watched the Video (17 times!). My problem is: I loop recorded a verse (3 times). Ok, I can get all 3 takes to pop up (in the menu) now I want to edit them together from the different takes (Just like in the video) If I highlight the "LAST PHRASE" in the verse and separate it, it renames the new region (which it should...right?) BUT I no longer have the pop up menu for the other takes. What am I doing wrong or what setting is wrong? The Video makes it look so easy. Thanx

Re: Vocal Editing ?
Check in prefs. There is a bit that deals with what has to match to have a region show up in the popup. Also you need to have your cursor where the regions start. I believe that there is also a pref for cutting all matching tracks at the same point and it sounds like you should have that turned on.
hope this helps more that confuses. |

Re: Vocal Editing ?
I don't think you need to separate the phrase into a new region before you copy and paste to your composite track. That might save some trouble as well.

Re: Vocal Editing ?
Hi Burton,
Sorry but I'm not sure I follow you? I thought this could be done without Cutting and Pasting parts to a new track, I want to edit the track that I'm already in. Is this possible? Here's what I want to do (in case I didn't word it right last time) I have 3 vocal takes of the same verse (all one on top of the other). I want to keep everything from TAKE 1 except for the very last line (Phrase). I want to use TAKE 3's last line. So don't I need to separate the last line of the verse? Thanx for the reply

As was said by one poster, your cursor must be right at the beginning of the region before the multi-select pull-down will appear. To separate all takes at the same time, use the separate command. see: Compili ng Vocals Kurt |

Re: Vocal Editing ?
Hi Guys thanx for all your help, It turns out that I miss understood and didn't realize that you HAD to create a new track to edit the parts together.
I just kinda figured that you could separate the file up into many regions and just pick from the different takes (I know that would be too easy) Never the less thanx again for the help.

Re: Vocal Editing ?
Turns out that you don't need to create a new track to edit the verse together. Use a new playlist instead. Take the best performance and duplicate that into a new playlist. Then call up the old playlist with the last line of the verse that you need to edit in. Highlight the in and out points of the section you want. Copy that section into the clipboard (command C). Then call up the new playlist. You will notice that the highlighted section from the old playlist is still highlighted. Hit command V to paste the last line to the verse. Voila! New regions are created and you have a finished verse without creating a new track. Be sure to add fades to the edit points before you consolidate the track.
