Default Mic Modeler...

Anyone using it and like it? Don't jump all over me for asking... I know it shouldn't work...most likely doesn't work. I've done the math. I'm just in a live mix situation where I've got no choice but to use crappy mics, and I hoping to improve. Just curious.

I use it as another EQ. Like it a lot. But (obviously) don't expect your 57s to sound like a C12.

Exactly what Guy said. Just for fun I had a U47 over at my studio that I was tracking with. I also had the same vocalist use a Rode NTV. I put the Mic Modeler on the NTV. It never matched the U47. Mic Mod is just another effect. If you recorded with crap, you will get crap no matter what. Sorry.

I found it to be more of a gimmick and eye candy than anything else... using mic placement, EQ and realizing the limitations and function of what mics you have is the best way to go... invest the money in a truly useful plug like R1, McDsp or Waves Renaissance...!!!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">i second that! save the money and get another good mic. like a Royer 121. that will be much better than getting a mic mod plug.

I've found it to be quite useful when someone brings in tracks that were recorded poorly. It's been very nice to run through the presets and find/tweak a setting that makes a vocal track sound better than it would have without it. It's improved the sound of many substandard vox tracks for me. I don't reach for it at all with tracks that were recorded well to begin with.
