Find Tempo
Is there something in PT 7.4 or 8.0 that resembles the "Find Tempo" function in Digital Performer. I need to calculate a tempo that hits multiple cuts of picture.. When I make identify multiple hit points as the closest downbeat, PT changes the tempo between each marker. I need it to calculate the tempo from the start of the cue. Is that possible?
Thanks

Re: Find Tempo
Did you place a tempo marking at the top of cue?
Oh, sorry... I see what you're asking. I'm no help.

I think Identify Beat is what you're looking for.

Re: Find Tempo
right, just to amplify:
select the start of a measure (by tabbing to transient on the bass drum for example) and separate the region there (Command E), then count to 1 st beat of the next bar (or 2) and do the same thing on THAT downbeat. then select that new region (of 1 or 2 bars exactly) and pull down IDENTIFY BEAT tell it that it's beat one of the bar (example: 3/1/0) and tell it the end point (4/1/0 or 5/1/0) and hit return. it will enter a tempo event with the determined tempo you can remove the region separations, if they bother you, with HEAL SEPARATION

Re: Find Tempo
Thanks guys... I have gone (and continue to use) the identify beat route, but what I am meaning is:
Can protools calculate a tempo based on multiple hit points. The Identify beat function seems to only do one hit at a time and then calculates a new tempo from the last hit to the next.. EG: tempo set at 120: beat 1 bar 1 is at SMTPE : 01:01:00:00 There is a mark that I need to hit at 01:01:16:22 I know that I can identify that hit as it's nearest downbeat and PT will calculate the tempo based on that.. making the tempo about 123.569 What about the next hit and the one after that.. If I identify another beat after the one that I just made PT will calculate a tempo change from the first hit and NOT Beat 1... What I need is a way to calculate the best tempo to hit multiple marks in a cue while having a consistent tempo.. Digital Performer has an option to calculate the best tempo to hit the most marks at that given calculated tempo.. does PT have anything that will do something close to that? Thanks again for your help....

Re: Find Tempo
I'm having the same issue.
My next approach is going to be finding tempo via hit markers in DP then exporting the tempo map with a standard MIDI file. I was told by a veteran in the field that is the way to do it. |

Re: Find Tempo
Watch my podcast to create a tempo ruler based on a live performance:

Re: Find Tempo
a little beat detective... a little identify beat... and a little trial and error should get u there... like my friend told me once if it says 95.897 theres a good chance its 96

Re: Find Tempo
one thing i do to double check is if i know its a consitant tempo thru the whole song i check my loop at the beginning and at the very end... if it loops up good at the beginning and at the end ur probably good and have found the right tempo
