Copying "track settings" between projects in PT11
Hi guys,
I have another quick question which I'm hoping to find some help with. Again, I've not been able to find an answer to this one in the manual, unfortunately. If I have a PT11 project with say a channel strip with a great effects chain that I've put together for (for example) a lead vocals track, and I decide I want to import that same strip into another project I'm working on rather than re-creating it from scratch, is there a way this can be done easily? Logic's approach to this is an import menu, where you could select any particular components of a project and easily import them into another project just by using a tick-box menu. So you could decide to import a channel strip, or some audio content, or both. Is there an import feature in PT11 that offers this sort of functionality? Cheers and thanks! Mike

Re: Copying "track settings" between projects in PT11
The only way I know of to do that in PT, (though chains SHOULD have been included in 11 ), is to create a blank session, then create from new or import the session data/track that you want to 'clone'. If you import a track and it has audio, just remove it from the 'template' session.
Save that new session as a template session. Whenever you wish to add that signal chain to a session, just import the session data from your 'template' session. Why Avid chose to not have this feature is beyond me. Seems like everyone was asking for it at one point or another.

Your post in the other thread is a better solution. I had forgotten all about that 'hack'.

I do think ISD is crippled in "regular" PT. But in HD, it's all I need. I don't even use the hack myself. |

Pro Tools Expert did a couple of videos on what they call a hack that does what you want.

Re: Copying "track settings" between projects in PT11
Hi guys,
I've given Import Session Data a try, and it is really comprehensive! Allows you to choose which tracks to import, and which specific info (plug-ins, sends, mixer settings, the track audio data itself) you want to bring across - to either a new track or onto an existing track. So far as I can tell, it's comparable to the way Logic Pro does this (and miles better than Cubase, where you have to drag and drop while having two projects open at once). Thanks for the info! Cheers, Mike
