Default G4 won\'t shutdown

This has been bugging me recently - it seems to have appeared since I installed Norton Utilities 6.0
When I choose "shutdown" from the Apple menu the machine shuts down...and restarts.
Has anyone else experienced this problem ?

My G4 won't shutdown when the MOTO MIDI to USB bridge, the MIDI Timepiece, is attached to the G4's USB bus with the MOTO piece turned off. The machine just restarts instead. Any similarity with your setup?

Incidentally, the Mac tech at my dealer, a knowledgable chap, advised me to not install Norton 6.0 on my G4. He advised me to boot from Norton when I wish to run Norton instead, saying he'd known of system problems after Norton installation. He was not specific concerning the sort of problems. Good luck.

Thanks - looks like I should remove Norton and boot from a Norton CD when I need to. I don't have any USB MIDI interfaces and the problem didn't occur until I installed Norton. Nothing on their website and no answer to my email query.

Yes. I'm using a lot of USB extension and port duplication. I'll look into this and see if it makes a difference.
What a PITA !

For the record, my G4 450 DP shuts down without incident with a number of USB devices attached. The only device which disallows shutdown is the MOTO MIDI Timepiece, provided the MOTU piece is turned off; turned on the shutdown occurs without problem. But also attached are a Belkin USB hub, Gefen USB cat5 extenders, Aten brand USB repeater cables, three Apple Pro keyboards, and three Pro mice. There must be more to this.

The G4 (Gig ethernet) still has USB Bugs! If you have any USB attached other than it's keyboard it will not shutdown. You will need to unplug any usb device or hub in order to shutdowm properly. I hope the new G4's and OS9.1 fixes this major inconvenience.

If you do want to install Norton 6.0, the only extension you should have on for NU 6 is "Norton Shared Lib". The other extensions NU 6 installs will cause problems.

Don't know if you the demo of Waves V.3
But I had a similar problem with my 9600 after the demo expired. Trashing all the Waves plug-ins and its associated preferences fixed the problem.
