What lectern are you all using?
Hi all!
What lectern/pulpit/music stand are you all using as a script stand for VO's and ADR/narration? And a second question, what, if anything, do you put on it to stop/limit reflections? After years with okayish stands I want to get something decent, something that's sturdy and nice looking. I'm trying to stay away from the typical music stand types as they are generally quite flimsy, and the beefy ones look like powered speaker stands. Will probably end up getting a beefy one and making a custom wooden panel for the top, just wanted to check what everyone else is using :) |

Re: What lectern are you all using?
Google “metal truss podium” for some nice, sturdy options. Go for a powder-coated one which will be less resonant.
I always use a baby-sized wool blanket draped over the top.

Re: What lectern are you all using?
I use a Manhasset music stand with a piece of rubber-backed carpet on top. I also try to position it so its angled away from the mic(even a small amount is often enough) I have seen similar stands with multiple(and large) holes thru the flat part(whether that makes a huge difference is something I don't know)

As long as all the bolts are tight, they are an industry standard

I use this stands, they also come with an LED light kit from K&M as a bundle:
https://www.thomann.de/pt/thomann_or...mium_set_1.htm For cover, I found that the Corsair heavy mouse pads work great, they came in various sizes and they adjust perfectly to the surface, even when tilted, while absorbing paper noise or attenuating the steel resonance of the stands: https://www.corsair.com/pt/en/Catego.../CH-9412660-WW

Re: What lectern are you all using?
Second the K&M german stuff, they are unbeliavebly sturdy. You can have all kinds of sidearms or drink holders you may need, all bolted to standard mic stand (though better have sturdy bottom as this thing may get heavy over time).
Unless keyboardist asks which stand for live gig (Ultimate) any other stand I always first check K&M catalog.

Re: What lectern are you all using?
I bought a dozen of these for prelay sessions. Great for tall actors and you can get them really tight on the mic stand because of the legs. Plus they are plastic and don't resonate. https://www.ratstands.com/product/the-alto-stand/

Re: What lectern are you all using?
Those RAT stands look nice. I think this would do:
https://www.ratstands.com/product/op...-stand-bamboo/ I've always been in the habit of dampening metal stands with Dynamat or equivalent. On the rear of the stand.
