Default 002R and -6089 DAE Errors please help!!!

Hi

I recentely upgraded to a 002R, and I simply swapped my old 001's PCI for the firewire controller (Lacie 400 PCI). Once hooked up the 002R went on without any issues, but as I launch PT I'm asked to update the firmware; now, my DAW isn't hooked up to the internet, so I cannot "download" this update as requested by the dialog box; what to do?

Also, I didn't touch anything in the system configuration from the previous setup with the 001 and PT 6.1.1 (which was rock solid without any problems), and now I get DAE -6089 Errors (System held off interrupts for too long, Increase/decrease HW buffer size) when simply importing a 2 track DAT tape via SPdif. Since moving the HW buffer size didn't fix the problem, according to the answerbase could this be a firmware update related problem? If not, what could it be? I've searched the forum, but so far I've found no related solutions.

My system:

Athlon 1800XP+
Asus A7M266 Board
512Mb DDR PC2100 RAM
Matrox P750 Triple head video card
Maxtor ATA100 40Gb Boot drive
Maxtor ATA100 Audio drives (various in removable trays)
Promise Ultra 100TX2 IDE Controller (audio dives attached)
Adaptec 2940 SCSI controller
Lacie 400 PCI Firewire controller
Plextor DVD RW
Yamaha SCSI CDrW

WinXP Pro SP1
Pro Tools LE 6.1.1
Digi 002R

Thank you for your help.

Jumpin' jiminy Christmas...

The 'download' is from your computer to the 002r unit; not from the internet. Just go ahead with it when it prompts you.

OK, I understand this, but then I suppose the firmware update file is somewhere in the Digidesign foder right? So the update will take care of itself?

Thanx for the moment.

OK

I just did it. It seemed to go fine, (although I got the error message at the end saying the computer could not communicate with the 002R, as told in the manual I simply unplugged and replugged the firewire cable and clicked OK).

Now I'll try to transfer those DAT tapes again and see if I still get those DAE -6089 errors anymore.

Thanx for the moment.

Seems like the firmware update has nothing to do with the -6089 errors, I still get them.

I already tried to search the Answerbase, but the solutions offered don't fit with my situation, so I just don't know what to do.

I already tried to change the DAE plyback buffer from 2 to 4 (and I have a Promise PCI controller), removing the fixed IRQ from the slot 3 where the 001's PCI card was (it was set on 9), but I got no results.

The errors comes totally random: sometimes after 10 minutes of recording, sometimes after 40, but it doesn't happen on the first launch of Pro Tools after boot up...

Please, if you have any solutions or ideas...

Thanx

Man, you've really got a lot of stuff going on in there...

Two things come to mind:

The lacie is not one of the Qualified FireWire PCI & CardBus Cards, you might want to try one of those.

and

Have you checked all of your hard drives to ensure that they are indeed running in DMA mode? When you get the error, which hard drive are you recording to? Have you tried recording to others? What speeds are the drives?

Yes, the machine is a bit "articulated", but that configuration ran like a dream with my old 001... no problem whatsoever.

I'm recording to the first of my two audio drives attached to the Promise controller, and the same problem happened when I tried to record on the system drive (which shouldn't be used, but I just gave it a try, you know...), I'll try to record on the other drive and see what happens. The drives are in DMA mode as I can see from the device manager.
I know the firewire controller isn't a qualified one, but I got it from my Digidesign dealer (the same who sold me the 002R) and he said they tested it on Win XP with the 002R and had it working ...I'll try to drop them a line and see what's their opinion on this issue.

If anybody else has any ideas they are more than welcome...

Thanx for the moment

Well

I tried to record on another drive, and it seemed to go fine, but I still got a couple of DAE errors, strange enough they are less frequent than on the other drive. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers for the IDE channels, and it worked for the motherboard channels, but I'm not sure about how to do it for the IDE channels on the Promise PCI controller...anybody has an idea about this?
Also, I'm on 6.1.1, should I try to upgrade to 6.4?

Thanx

OK

After some more troubleshooting I still haven't find out what's the matter with this system: my tests brought me to the conclusion that the DAE -6089 is not drive dependent, analog or digital recording dependent, sample rate dependent, file format dependent, PT version (both 6.1.1 and now 6.4) and firmware version dependent...as in all of those variations I tried I still got the error.
Now I can only think of the firewire controller (as it's the only thing with the 002R that's changed from the old configuration with the 001).
Should I get a Fireconnect 400 and be done with it? It seems strange that the Lacie I have isn't compatible, since except for these recording situations it's working fine (playback of my previous sessions is OK from start to end).

Please, somebody must've figured out...

As I said before:

That, honestly, would have been the first thing I would have done had it been me, but I've had personal experience with incompatible hardware/chipsets and Digi/protools, so maybe I'm just conditioned that way.
