Default Reinstall software message

I tried to run PTLE today and got a message after clicking on the shortcut:

Initialization Error

This software requires installation of certain device drivers and a reboot before running. Please reboot or reinstall the software.

I've reinstalled several times (manually deleting the Digidesign folders after uninstall because for some reason they don't disappear after uninstall) and still get the same message. Anyone heard of this problem before?

Thanks for whatever you can offer.

Have you installed a newer verson of waves? Then i know what is going on. The newer Waves-stuff needs a newer version of the Pace-drivers. Go to http://www.paceap.com/download.html and download the latest drivers and install them.

Thanks, Bastiaan. I was running a demo version of Waves that ran fine, but probably expired yesterday. The third time I reinstalled PT, I went ahead and uninstalled Waves but I just checked and Waves folders and files are still in program files. What do you think--delete the Waves files and folders or upgrade the drivers from the page you so kindly pointed to? After so many failures, I'm kind of gun-shy.

Thanks again.

Hi! Had the same problem...time to make a page with tips and *clues* for fixing the fun things like this...
Anyway- one thing to try: Part of the PACE protection is a driver called "TPkd." First, goto "Control Panel," select "system," then click the "hardware" tab. Next, select "Device Manager." Once that window opens, goto "View" menu, and when it drops down, click on "Show hidden devices." Look for a catagory called "Non-Plug and Play Drivers." "TPkd" should be a device part way down the list. If it is there, and is *clean*, it most likely is something else. If it has a red *X* in it, it has a problem. If it is NOT there, hit the PACE site and grab the newest drivers (link and info below).
I solved the problem by "uninstalling" it (right-click on *TPkd* in device manager, uninstall should be second option down), uninstalling PT LE, rebooting, and then reinstalling PT LE, and rebooting once again. I have read of some having a problem with it trying to grab/share an IRQ with their floppy.
I also went to the PACE site and grabbed the newest driver file ( http://www.paceap.com/ )(goto right side of main page, right under "End Users" is a drop down menu to select the appropriate OS to grab the drivers), and installed that as well. Some were able to simply "enable" the device (TPkd); for me, it refused to enable, and it took the above steps to remedy.
First posting of this solution was by a member named "Virtual," back in Oct 2002. Credit where credit due- thx Virtual =).
Hope this helps! Nikki =)

Nikki,

It worked! Thank you so much, and "Virtual" too. Proof that the DUC is an extremely valuable tool for users and a great cost-saving venue for Digi (fewer support personnel). Life is good.

Steve
