Hearing MIDI...
I created a new MIDI track and drew some notes in but could not hear them when I played back the track...?

Re: Hearing MIDI...
Basic setup: MAC OSX
Open Audio/Midi in preferences , click the IAC drive icon in the Midi window, click the online check box. Set the output on your midi track to IAC bus 1. Download SimpleSynth Set the input to SimpleSynth to IAC bus 1. Youll now hear the midi playing back through the Mac output. This is the simplest way without buying or using 3rd party software!!!!!!!!

Re: Hearing MIDI...
Unfortunately I use a PC not a MAC and those same options are not there. I've tried playing around for quite a while but I can't seem to hear the MIDI.

Re: Hearing MIDI...
Is there a version of that SimpleSynth that will be compatible with Windows XP?

Re: Hearing MIDI...
What are you assigning those midi notes out to? And how?

Re: Hearing MIDI...
First of all, nobody can hear MIDI. It doesn't make any sound. MIDI is simply a command that tells something else to make sound.
Think of it like playing a piano. Your finger is issuing the command to the piano to make the sound. You can move your finger all you want, but it isn't going to make a sound until you touch a key with it. Your finger is like MIDI. You can create all the MIDI commands you want but until you point them at something that can make sound, you're not going to hear anything. Things that make sound are called sound modules, synthesizers, samplers. They come in hardware and software versions but either way, you have to point the MIDI data in Pro Tools to one of these devices.
