Update your pace files.

From the all of the current compatibility pages for XP:
Quote:

Windows XP SP2, Microsoft DEP and PACE InterLok Drivers Update

* if you encounter unexplained blue screens, freezes or spontaneous reboots when launching Pro Tools with Windows XP Service Pack 2, please update your PACE InterLok drivers:
o Download Current InterLok Driversl
o More information from the PACE website
* The current InterLok drivers solve the described problems without having to disable Microsoft's DEP (Data Execution Prevention) feature introduced with Windows XP Service Pack 2.

Hey Richard,

I don't use SP2 on my Protools partiton.
And I do know that there is alot of conflicts with firewire devices and SP2.
This is due to Windows likes to treat firewire like a internet connection.
The driver install of 002R is when the problem happened.
The best advice that I have is if you don't need SP2 don't install it.
Otherwise try the DEP fix mentioned above.

Let me know what happens.

Matt

MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATT!

Hey Buddy! God Bless you, you are back! I thought we lost ya there for another week. I am just thrilled that you ae back on and that hopefully the folks here can tap some of that awesome knowledge you possess!

Great to see you here my friend!

Okay, I have an External Maxtor Drive that is dead. I have no idea how to get the data off of it easily. I took it apart, hooked it up via IDE, and still no go. I tried the freezer trick too, and no luck. Any suggestions?

And, I need to extend my VGA, Mouse and USB cables so I can stick my computers in a closet. (see my other thread).

Awesome to see you here bud. Please check your email when you get a chance as well! God Bless!\\\

Ok, I went home and tried the Pace driver update, nothing. Then I went in to disable device drivers. I disabled the Nvidia nforce networking controller and not only did protools load up and work, but I then put in the 6.9 cd and my computer could read it just fine. Weird. But will disabling this device have any effect when I go to set up my internet and network at home?

Hey Richard,

Yes, your on board ethernet will not funtion with that disabled.
But all you need is any 10/100 pci ethernet card and then you'll be good to go.
SP2 may fixed alot of internet holes in Windows XP but it made alot problems for other devices and software.

Ok Master Yoda. Are you around? I have the funds to get this pimped computer going and I am ready to make my order.

I just re-read this whole thread again (my eyes hurt ) Looks like I've been out of the loop for about 50 posts.

I noticed some part changes with the RAM and power supply. I'll make a new parts list and post it.

Lets get this thing to 32+42 on the stable side of the N-force Master Yoda. Time to teach the N-force to a new and more powerful Jedi The others are weak.
