Thanks for the info. Even if I found an HD core card cheap, I'm starting to see where that money might be better put to other things. I'll be really thinking about what I want to do.

I'm not sure why people get so hung up on bragging rights.
Obviously HD works for studios that feel they need it. The general feeling 'round here is that, regarding this thread, LE users don't need HD. How do I know this? We bought LE. We would, however, like to have what has been asked over and over on a forum that has smack down virtual fist fights about a better LE.

Reeeeeally want me to upgrade to HD? Make the entire package the price of an 003. Now that would be special.

LE, 22 stereo is 22 tracks with 26 stereo tracks left regardless to how many VI's or aux, RTAS u use...
In my older protools le 6.1 with digi 001 a stereo track used two voices. If I ran out of room, I could convert a stereo track to mono and add another track. I just moved up to pt 8, perhaps it is different now?

Yes, there are no more voices in LE, just track count and you get 48 tracks mono or stereo. (If you search under User Name Shan there is a way to up the count to 96, but my memory isn't up to the task today.)

DV Toolkit 2 and Music Production Toolkit 2 up it to 64 tracks. The Complete Production Toolkit ups it to 128 tracks.

Cheers,

hello. so I am interested in pro tools HD for a couple reasons and want to know the benefits it has to LE. I heard if you get the hd cards you can record with no latency and also it frees up your ram so it can be dedicated to cpu tasks and plug ins? also what is the difference to audio quality? I mean it is pro tools HD what is so HD about it compared to LE? I heard in LE it doesn't clip as easily as HD and that they are both built around different codes LE 32bit , HD 48bit? what is the difference there? I have heard plenty of LE sessions and a few HD systems and from what I can tell the HD usually ends up sounding clearer and with higher headroom. could that be because of what they were built off of as a program? I am curious before I go and spend the ridiculous investment into an HD rig?

I also want to know the difference between the different HD interfaces such as 192 I/O.

what I am looking for is to be able to record at least 16 tracks at once using a C|24 and an HD interface with pro tools HD with its cards at least an HD2. what would I all need. I don't want to talk to a guitar center rep they are idiots.

The biggest limit on audio quality is the analog to digital conversion process. There are also some plug-ins that are only available for HD.

Found this interesting in light of Pro Tools HD Native
But more interestingly Pro Tools 9 Crossgrade with 96 tracks and latency correction
Have any of you working natively off your CPU considered these options?
If so do they answer your prayers?

I myself am an LE user and considering an upgrade, but not there's no hardware restrictions and an ability to run up to 126GB of memory on my Win7 native seems desirable.
Native HD, perhaps?
I'm interested to know how native really runs in a professional setting because my LE system has choked many times before, I must admit.

Desirable, but not reality.
