Default Clip Gain Workflow

Ok so a question to all of your Pro Pro Toolers...
Let's say you're manually de-essing vocals with clip gain, what's your workflow? you click 3-4 times each time to create all the breakpoints? one would think there would be some kind of shortcut or hack to just do it with one action or two... also, I know you can select a region and lower it but that creates a 90 degree angle and causes clicks and pops within the clip, how do you handle this the fastest way without needing to click so many times? or are we all just doomed to clicking to infinity?

Thanks and appreciate any insight!

Setting the preference to 1dB steps helps to speed up things and CMD+Shift+x is your friend to make ramps. Also, you don't need to see the Clip Gain line to work with Clip Gain.

Use volume automation.
Then select your clip and choose to convert volume automation to clip gain.

That’s an Ultimate only feature. Looking at OP’s profile, it appears they’re on Standard.

I often use Clip Gain for de-essing. I swipe across the sound and hit the B key(with keyboard focus enabled). That separates so I have a clip and then use the mouse to adjust Clip Gain for that clip.

Linear cross fades between clip gain regions is the same as a volume ramp. I don't know if its a quicker workflow but its another thing to have in the toolbox.

Select across the desired area, "B" key to separate, Shift-Opt-down arrow for the desired amount of clip gain, select across and command-F to apply a preset linear 10msec Xfade across the boundaries. One can easily program this into a Keyboard Maestro or Soundflow macro so it's one keystroke/button.

Which is exactly what I did. It’s my DeBreath button/macro.
